Can't start Skills Field Tournament Manager

Last weekend, we were unable to start the Tournament Manager for the Skills field. When we tried to link to the remote server, if we gave a bad password, we would get a password error, If we entered the correct password, Tournament Manager closed without any error message. We were told that miss matched times could cause the problem. I checked the computers and all had the correct time and date. I tried bringing up the second copy of TM from multiple computers. We were able to run Timers and Pit Displays with no problem. We just could not start TM linked to the remote computer.
I am going to try to recreate the problem back in our room. Any ideas why TM will close silently?

I may be completely wrong on this, but I believe TM ‘closes’ after the right password is entered and then launches the desired application. Perhaps, when TM is trying to be launched (the second part of the aforementioned process), it errors out.

If this is true, I would think your connection to the server is fine, but there would be some sort of corruption or other issue with the data.

Regardless, I would recommend testing, at minimum, the following 2 scenarios, checking for issues:

  • Open the tournament data file directly on the Skills computer
  • Open TM remotely on a different computer (not your Skills computer)

With the tournament in progress we didn’t want to try anything using the live database.
We tried opening TM remotely on three different computers.
We will try recreating the problem during break.
If we can recreate the problem, we will try using different computers as the master to try to isolate the problem.

We were running Windows 10 on the master. We tried both Windows 10 and Windows 7 on the skills computer.

Another problem that we had was with entering the skills scores on the Main computer. The panel for scores entry did not show all of the entry boxes and the panel could not be resized. I had seen the problem before, but had been able to resize. I found a display option that I had never seen before “Graphic Options - Panel Fit”. By changing from “Maintain Display Scaling” to “Maintain Aspect Ratio” I was able to get the full content on the panel displayed.
