Cascade lift with string instead of chain

anyone ever tried making a cascade lift with string instead of chain like in FRC and FTC? it would be much more compact and does not have have the vulnerability of chain breaking.

instead of the sprockets, the string would could just wrap around spacers, so it will be possible to make it much thinner, simpler to build, and probably have the same strength.

what do you think of this idea? do you see any problems with using string?

You can do string, that will work. A tricky bit is making sure that the slides are low friction, so gravity will pull the cascade down.

Yes, it works but use the pulley kind of green piece to make sure friction is good. i did it early season on my bot and it worked great.

This was the piece I was talking about.

Yep, I made a prototype one in TiP.

Like Foster said, you just need to make sure that it has low enough friction that it will go down with gravity.

he could also use latex tubing to elastically hold it up or down.
