Chain Snapping Off Intakes

Hey guys,
Our team has had a ton of trouble with out intakes. Our chain is continuously snapping off when we intake a few cubes. Were not sure if its getting caught on something, which doesnt seem to be the matter, or if there is another cause. If this has happened to anyone else and you found a solution please share your findings with us!

Also, we’ve been struggling with tension and our intakes. Is there any way to release tension when stacking yet still have it while in taking?

Personally our team used a sandwich design and that made sure that the intake chains would not snap off.

Is there any chance you could elaborate or add a picture?

Sure ill send pictures soon!

Thank you! You have no idea how much of an issue this has caused us

Not sure if this will help but you never know

You could put the intakes on coast while stacking so the chain moves. But for the breaking part. do what @Ciaran-N said and make sure that the drive shaft isnt getting held or stopped by like a rubber band getting caught in your intakes and stuff. You might have to much compression.

I believe that the problem is unequal spacing. Check to see if you have the exact number and size of spacers on the front and back sprockets.

@kmaster is right. For us, our sprockets would slide down a bit and that caused the chains to slip off. We solved that problem by threading our axles. But we recently just changed the conveyer belt pieces with the actual chains since they don’t loosen at the joints as easily. Also to maintain compression while being able to have your intake move out of the way can be accomplished by a hinge and rubber bands.

We have had a problem with our intake as well but while we were at Night At The Museum we noticed that a lot of the teams of a “Reinforced” intake of sorts. The intake would have the main chain with the rubber tread and flaps sandwiched between two sprockets with drive chain. It was too big for our robot so we just used one row of drive chain. This has worked very well for us. If that made sense.

Is there any chance you can elaborate or provide images.

We’ll try that. Also our chain isn’t slipping but instead breaking and snapping off. I don’t know if this would make a difference or not.

If I may ask, could you send a picture of the first stage of your tray?

Also to add: could you send intake pictures?

Our’s snapped off too but I think it was because they began to slip then tilted at an angle and that caused it to snap off

Yes I will get them to you tomorrow.

This one above is without the upper chain.
The one below is with it all together.
