Chaperone for competition

If the school registers their team for a competition, but is not able to find a teacher or staff to accompany the kids to the competition, is it possible for the parents to drop off, pick up and stay with the kids throughout the competition?

The game manual requires a responsible adult to be present at all times. There is no distinction whether it is a school or an independent organization. Many robotics teams are not affiliated with the school, therefore it doesn’t make sense to require a teacher or School staff member in the game manual.

My schools do this all the time. The “lead teacher” may not be available so the parents take the roboteers (and robot!) to the event, stay and then take everything home.

Personally I think it’s great because the parents get to see first hand how competitions work.

Yes. In fact, funny you mention this, as both of our coaches currently have covid, so our engineer’s mother had to chaperone for my team. Some competitions may require official coaches though, so I recommend you email the event organizer to make sure.

Let’s make this clearer, if a situation presents itself that listed team contact can not attend, they should immediately inform EP of designated adult who will be present all day and their contact information prior to event.

We have had multiple situations of minors being dropped off without designated responsible adult. Let’s just say, not ok to put teams in such situation as coaches.
