Chinese Robots

Has anyone seen any of the Chinese tournament winners? Do any of the Chinese teams monitor these forums?

this thread seems kind of racist…

I think you have “racist” confused with “curious” because there really isn’t anything racist in his post.

I imagine, somewhere on some Chinese forums there is some guy posting “Has anyone seen any of the American tournament winners? Do any of the American teams monitor these forums?”

A different country and/or environment may lend itself to vastly different ideas, I’d also be interested in seeing what they come up with. I’m sure they’d be interested in ideas from this side as well.

I meant “Chinese” as in “teams from China.” No matter how I parse that, I can’t make it sound racist.

Yeah – that, and the best Chinese teams last year were really, really good.

well i just meant that you are singling out another race. isn’t that considered to be racist, even though you weren’t offending anyone? that’s what i thought it meant…

I thought he was singling out a country, China. He was looking for the results, the teams, the matches and more importantly the very cool robots.

See the post from fryfrog, Ricks question works for a vast number of countries.

Let’s start over before we have an out of topic thread.

“Does any have pictures/match results from any of the tournaments in China? I’m extremely curious”.

A few chinese teams were at the Pan-Pacific competition and there were lots of videos taken (which are on youtube).

I didn’t really look that much though…

No because you AREN’T singling out a race, just a competition location. Cut back on the oversensitivity.

The only post I’ve seen from a member from China that I know of is post #9 in this thread on chiefdelphi.com:

Doesn’t look like a frequent user, but looks likely that they’re coming to the World Championship.

Here’s one video we found early in the season: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2Bf_fFol04&feature=related.

We were at Pan-Pacific Championships, and we found the Chinese robots there to be mostly similar to American ones (zip-tied tank tread), but some had similar designs to last year’s Chinese Bridge Battle teams (forklift with zip-tied tank tread), which we haven’t seen implemented by any other teams.

I want to know how the Japanese teams are doing considering this is their first year. Has anybody had any experience with them?

Okay…seeing as I live in Vancouver…and I work in the neighbourhood described by the federal government as the most ethnically diverse neighbourhood in Canada…

The better phrasing of the question is…
“Has anyone see pics or vids of the robots and competions from China…” but I know Rick and this is what he meant…

Technically if you blur race and country I have several teams that the team members were born in China but compete for Canada seeing as they are landed immigrants…they are a Canadain team right?..

English (the language not the people…:p) does not all ways define a good line between the two…

Oh and btw …I have seen pictures from a First competition a few years ago …a team from China was composed of 4 or 5 kids from an internation school in China and you guessed it… none of them were Chinese…

Oh and to finally, and completely muddy the water…Chinese is not a race (ask the Japanese, the Koreans and the Vietnamese)…Asian is a Race…

And we definately need some scouting photos…

We do need scouting photos.

Sorry that the English language can be so ambiguous. That being said, it is simply not feasible, at least ethically, to refer to a team as "those people who reside in a country they aren’t native to. A native human is all but an extinct notion.

Time to get back on subject.

I’m Chinese and I approve this message.

I stumbled upon a Chinese Youtube-like site that responds to some English-language search terms. If you go to www.56.com you can search on “Vex robot” and find video of some Elevation robots.

For example: [http://www.56.com/u43/v_NDA1NDUyNDA.html. They look pretty much like the robots I’ve seen in Canadian/US events. In this video there were two claws, a forklift, and one twin-belt robot. These four robots are generally faster than the ones I’ve seen in the Northwest.](http://www.56.com/u43/v_NDA1NDUyNDA.html. They look pretty much like the robots I’ve seen in Canadian/US events. Keep in mind that event is in Hong Kong, not in mainland China. Big difference there.

I figured that is why I could even search in English… Do we know any readers of Chinese who can post links to rest-of-China videos?
