If anyone has a few of the green balls from clean sweep that they would be willing to give away, please PM me. Nice condition would be even better. Thanks!
If you guys have a few bucks to spend, just consider buying the swept away classroom competition sample kit ($24.99), which comes with a few balls and is half the price of the sample NBN kit. But if you are going to buy a field anyways, then I guess what you are doing is fine.
My team and I would appreciate that as well. 1 or 2 would be great for testing!:D:D:D:D
Is it definite that the NbN balls are identical to the Clean Sweep balls?
Not identical, but similar.
Is it worth it to try to get clean sweep balls, in your opinion? Or should I wait and get NbN balls. When have the new game object become available in past years? In other words, how long will I have to wait if I want NbN balls.
Thanks for the help.
If you have Clean Sweep balls or a local team has some and lets you borrow them, great! But I don’t think it’s worth it to look for and buy some, unless you can get them cheap or free, especially as they aren’t completely identical. The skyrise kits were available to buy at Toss Up worlds as soon as the game was released, I don’t think there is a specific time when the kits are available other than whenever they arrive.
I’m currently working on getting balls earlier and cheaper, and plan to post information in a few days/weeks.
Thanks for the info.
Not sure if the employee was accurate, but I heard a VEX employee working at the VEX Store at Worlds say that the delay for NbN game objects was largely due to the ongoing strikes on the west coast (shipping).
Wouldn’t surprise me…hard to ship things globally when the shipping lines on the entire west coast of the U.S. are unreliable.
Yes, I got that story too. Seems plausible.
It is the same story I got with a washing machine I ordered that was delayed (a nice LG one Consumer Reports liked I finally got and then left to install it after worlds to preserve my back - good thing too since the install and removal operation tweaked it) Now that worlds is done, the equally backed up honey do list is starting to get knocked out.
I was told by someone who already has the field objects that the clean sweep balls are almost identical in every way (weight, size, material) except texture.
If you have a Dollar Tree store near you. I bought 4 of their 4" foam balls They seemed close to what I saw on the NbN field in the convention center’s lobby. They are close enough to get started with prototypes until the game pieces are available and at a price of $1 each how can you go wrong?
Could you get the precise weight of one of those balls for us?
Using food scale (not very precise) they are around 50 grams/1.5 ounces. I am on spring break, but will be stopping into school latter this week and hopefully remember to get you a more precise weight. We bought a 4" dog/tennis ball last week (just to use for size in prototypes) which was really heavy, these are much closer.
Did you measure in grams or oz? Because 50 grams is actually 1.76 oz. Which is cool because the real balls are .11 lbs or 1.76 oz. (pretty sure…someone correct me if I’m wrong). So it looks like those dollar tree balls might be a perfect prototyping ball.
The best I can tell from the scale I am using is the ball is around 1.5 oz. or close to 50 grams.
I see…definitely hard to know for sure. They seem to be a bit over 50 grams…so probably a bit heavier than the actual balls, but not much. They definitely seem to be good enough for prototyping though.
The real balls will probably vary in weight a bit as well, so small differences need to be planned for.
Any better measurement of those dollar tree balls yet?
I picked up a few on Wednesday. I’ll measure them this week and post specs unless someone beats me to it.
Thanks, I stopped by our Dollar Tree but I couldn’t find any. The employee knew what I was looking for but she said they just ran out!
Shucks…
