Coating robot materials

Good morning, our team has been looking for permitted coating materials for our robot for some time to use in different mechanisms such as wings.

We have noticed the robustness of the material used in this video (https://youtu.be/s7yU7V1xgsw) but we do not know exactly what it is, we appreciate any ideas and/or purchase links.

(Im assuming you mean plastic-type things. correct me if I’m wrong)

I believe that ACE uses laser-cut Delrin/polyacetal. Most teams generally use plain polycarbonate such as the stuff sold on robosource: 1/16" Clear Polycarbonate Sheet 12" x 24" x 0.0625" for VEX Robotics Plastic Sheets - Robosource.net

Polycarbonate is very versatile; if you are willing to spend more, you can get it in nice colors like white and black. There is also the option of using special paint to get it a nice bright color like orange, purple, or blue. We used this paint for our first robot: https://shorturl.at/qPTV9

Are you referring to the plastic?

In that case, the ones permitted by the game manual are by rule R18:

Legal plastic types include polycarbonate (Lexan), acetal monopolymer (Delrin), acetal copolymer
(Acetron GP), POM (acetal), ABS, PEEK, PET, HDPE, LDPE, Nylon (all grades), Polypropylene, and FEP.

On Ace’s robot, I believe they use Delrin. My team uses Acetron GP, and most robots that I’ve seen use polycarbonate/lexan. All three are solid options, and I believe the rest could be, but I haven’t had experience with them and cannot recommend them.

Additionally, make sure that if you use it you abide by the quantity restriction stated in R18: Robots may use custom-made parts cut from certain types of non-shattering plastic. It must be possible to have cut all of the plastic parts on the Robot from a single 12” x 24” sheet, up to 0.070” thick.

Hope this helps :+1:
