Cody's Let's Build a Bot series - VEX Starstruck

Hello Vex community,

I’ve started a multi-part series on YouTube where I build (in CAD) an entire high school legal Vex robot for this year’s game - Vex Starstruck. This series is aimed at being educational at all levels and will be classroom safe, that is no cussing or anything like that. I’ve tried to keep the videos within a 30-40 minute length so they can be viewed inside of one class period.

Currently I have three videos up, and we’ve gotten an interesting start on our robot design and lift system.

If you’re interested in this series, you can find it here, and of course if you want to follow along you should probably subscribe to my YouTube channel </shameless_plug>.

In this thread I’m interested in feedback and ideas for the series and/or future projects. This is an ongoing venture and you can be a part of it!

So let me know what you think and feel free to contribute to the project in any way you see fit both here and in the video comments.

Wow, this is great!

On your YouTube page, there is only part 2 and 3, where is part 1?
Here is a screenshot of what I see.
Something must be wrong on my end. Sorry to bother you guys.

Part one appears on my screen. perhaps it is a problem on your end?.. @Aiden Pyle

Interesting, I’ll figure that out, in the meantime here’s a direct link to the first video.

Thank you, but don’t worry about it too much.

I like the idea! It’s a nice way to learn some CAD, strategy, and robot design in one, and a good place to start for new teams that don’t know where to start.

Unfortunately I don’t have the time to watch the entire videos, so I clicked through real quick; sorry if you covered this in the video. Wondering what the design points are that drove the concept of machining down the collars to make the small box tubing out of the C-channel parts. That’s quite a bit of precision machining to achieve that, something I would think most high school VEX programs would not have access to.
