Hello Vex Community,
I was wondering if there are any students who are going to be attending UC Berkeley and interested in joining a VEX College Team.
If you are interested email me at [email protected]
Thanks

I got rejected from there but I don’t think that counts =P
Good luck setting up your team! It’s a lot of work but it’s worth it!
It’s hard to get college people…
Just a word of warning, as freshman in college, be careful taking on leadership roles. Focus on getting yourself used to the college environment, it’s drastically different from high school. I’m not trying to be discouraging, just speaking from my own experience.
That being said, KTOR would be happy to provide you with any assistance we can. Let us know what you need and we’ll see if we can get you up and running.
The best piece of advice I can give you is to get you school on board. KTOR isn’t school affiliated, and because of that, workspace and parts storage is a major issue(I haven’t had use of my back seat since January). A classroom and a closet can make a world of difference.
Or a nice big room no one uses at home :D.
But on a more serious note we are working on this as well at Aperture. Personally I don’t know where to go next we are working on sponsorships from a few companies. But I don’t know how to register us as a business or non-profit or something like that just incase they require something like that for sponsorships…
*side tracked again (believe me I’m done this time)
I agree with Andrew when it comes to taking on leadership roles as a freshmen. I did it this year on FTC and FRC and now VEX when it came to mentorship I ran the CAD for both teams and tried to teach it but it was VERY VERY difficult. Again I’m not discouraging you I love FIRST and VEX quite a lot just see if you can spread the power evenly so you don’t start slipping in school. I almost had that happen because I was so consumed by FRC this year but I was saved by the bell in that case and got on top of all my work.
I’m with y’all…
So I’ve been in college part- and full-time for four years, and I’m just getting around to start a college team…
Promises to be fun!!! See y’all on the field!
(and yes, I do have a couple extra spaces to meet in my house, the school wants to involve their students, it’s just funding… Any ideas on that?)
Funding is a nightmare. KTOR is lucky enough to have the backing of STEMRobotics, without whom we would be completely out of luck. We have an agreement with them that in exchange for having our registration and tournament fees covered, we volunteer at their events. If there are any organizations like that near you, I’d suggest approaching them with a similar plan.
The good thing about that setup is the community service you do for them looks fantastic on grant applications for companies that focus on community work. We were able to land a good sized Wal-Mart grant at the end of the season, which I partially contribute to our community work(Although it was mostly because our guy on the inside is awesome).
Keep an eye out for any local business that might have an interest robotics, college kids, or high school kids, it never hurts to ask. I’ve seen a lot of amazing stuff out of a lot of amazing teams, show your passion for passing it on and good things will come to you.
I have a few friends there, I’ll talk to them.
That would be really cool!
Good luck!!
