Sounds really far away, I might not be able to
Living in Texas, that’s already quite far out of my reach.
And then there’s the fact that my high school next year has little funding for VEX, so its not very likely that I’d be able to attend.
But I’d definitely like to see one on tv
I would probably attend (since it is a signature event), but I would like it to be a little closer to where I live.
The issue is not teams attending, the issue is finding a venue and organizing the event. Much much more goes into running events, and signature events in particular, than you know.
Don’t know if I could catch a plane to Colorado.
Colorado is pretty far from any large group of teams looking at the RobotEvents map. It wouldn’t make sense for me.
So is Hawaii
And I don’t think a Hawaii signature event makes sense either. California makes sense, because theres a lot of teams in Cali. The signatures in Ohio, Indiana, etc. make sense due to the large amount of teams there.
Colorado is right in the middle of everything, so more fair travel times (unless you live in Maine or something up there)
Hawaii sigs at least in the last 4 years have had minimal numbers of teams outside Hawaii or outside the state.
We’ve also struggled to provide a signature event experience and will probably struggle hard if those requirements were to be enforced.
That said, I’m sure enough teams would attend a colorado sig if it were hosted for a minimum of three years. The first couple years will be hard but by the third teams would likely go because its a reputable sig.
When are thinking about having one? We are in MT and would definitely make the trip.
it’s just a idea, just need to know how many teams we could get to attend
if we can somehow pull this off, probably november-december ish next year
There is a large population in the Carolinas and Tennessee. Something near Franklin NC, or Knoxville might work well.
imo it makes sense to hold signature events in the circled places, yes most of these places already have signatures, but other places probably just won’t get the same amount of participation.
Isn’t that kind of a lose-lose for everyone? It’s approx 4 hours of flying for everyone, and I’m sure people would prefer sigs that they could drive to instead of flying.
I still think its better than a quadruple loss if say, you’re from NY and there is a sig in California that you want to attend
I would go
I think that it really depends on who the host is and what they promise. Battle at the border was relatively far, requiring a flight for many teams but at the same time many teams were prepared to attend an event with such a reputable EP. I think that depending on the host, many teams would be more than willing to make the flight out to Colorado.
It’s important to note that the appeal of a worlds slot is large, and as long as the event can reach critical mass to have more than one slot it will be full pretty much for sure.
Mark Leon Invitational struggled not only due to the time it was held but also due to the world slot limitation. It only qualified through excellence which turned off many teams.
