Comedic + Stategic Advantage?

we’ve had this discussion. there are four team members ready to force you out of the tank tread idea if you do it.

Elaborate? Why not have treads? (Not saying they’re ideal though…)

think he want a “longg” tank tread drive that would simply drive up the ladder
with the aid of some hooks or something

most of our team really dislike tread drives. we’ve had rather bad experiences with them. the first time we tried one, we got halfway through a competition and rebuilt it with wheels because it was so horrible xD

but now you have to think, they came out with the high strength sprockets that are the same pitch as the tank tread…
hmmmm… might want to reconsider?

as a drive system, still no =P no problem with them for arms etc, but not for driving.

If your robot was encased in goals and couldn’t move, you’d feel like you lost fair and square? If you do, then by all means, continue to the play the game.

Of course - And I eagerly look forward to opponents trying to do it.

personally i dont plan on being slow enough or unattentive enough to let anyone do that to me. is that not sort of a reason for coaches?
“okay they’re trying to trap you, drive thirty centimetres to the left and keep going”

I agree. If the coach, or even the driver, doesn’t notice that there’s a robot dragging 10 lb. goals around you, then you need to take a look at something. :stuck_out_tongue:

Also, I don’t think any robot will be fast enough and have enough to torque to be able to drag those goals fast enough to trap anyone (who’s paying attention, atleast… and even if you’re not paying attention, you really shouldn’t be sitting in one place long enough to be trapped…).

or they can set a trap and corner you into it :stuck_out_tongue:

At any rate, you might be able to use it to your advantage. Not being entirely trapped, but if a robot was bringing the goals to you, I’d kindly score on it.

Any new ideas for hanging?

Who wants to figure out how to make a telescoping jointed arm not backdrive?

After you xD

Once or twice?

lexan anyone?

I sure don’t. Instead, I’m working on a latch that will hold the robot up without straining the motors.

I have no idea what this means. Someone care to enlighten me?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but my understanding of it is that a telescoping joint is something that is able to slide in and out, as one would open a telescope (sliders in the vex world). Therefore, it would be a joint that slides in and out to grow (probably to attach to one of the steps of the ladder), but does not fall victim to gravity and return to its stretched form, dropping the robot back to the floor.

I already made one. If anyone wants to see a picture I would gladly post it.

The only problem with it is that the rubber bands that I use to make it expand break all the time. Any ideas how to fix it?

It uses linear slides with rubber bands that are situated so that they can completely coincide with each other, but give them any slack and they will shoot out into 20 inch bars.
