I’ve been traveling a lot recently meeting with students, teachers, coaches and Event Partners. In my discussions with teams, I’ve realized that not everyone is aware of the new Community Award sponsored by Google. The REC Foundation announced this award at the 2019 VEX Robotics World Championship as a way to recognize VRC and/or VEX U teams that make a positive impact on STEM education opportunities in their community through leadership, outreach, mentorship, and support. This is not an award for just starting other VEX teams (although that might help) but honors teams that support any STEM programs. I know there are some outstanding programs that mentor VEX and other organization robotics teams, run robotics camps, tournaments and Girl Powered workshops, advocate for STEM funding or inclusion of robotics as a varsity program and promote other STEM initiatives. The 10 teams recognized as the Community Award winner will automatically qualify for the 2020 VEX Robotics World Championship AND Google will pay their registration fee and provide a $500 VEX Robotics gift certificate.
