Will the new Vex system motors, sensors, ect. will be compatible with the currnt Vex system
ummm… what new vex system are you talking about, because i dont think there is one…
I read in a Robot magazine issue that a new Vex System is coming out soon which is based on the current version
If you look in the picture on the online article from Robot Magazine it appears that the motors in that picture are identical to the current ones. Either they just have new magenta plastic casings or the picture was color-shifted.
At least from a manufacturing standpoint, it would make sense to use extremely similar or even the same components between the two different kits to cut down on the costs.
These two kits will exist as two entirely seperate platforms. There will be a large amount of compatibility but it is premature to make any detailed announcement or specification list at this time.posted.
Just know, we are (of course) looking out for our loyal customer base, and will do our best not to alienate anyone currently using the Vex system.
On a personal note, I am very excited about the partnership with Revell, and I think a lot of people will also be excited once they see the final product.
I promise I will pass along more information once it becomes more concrete!

wow. i havent seen that yet. looks interesting…
Vex in red? Looks even better than before, but it seems almost like an RC car now…
true. i liked that it looked all metal. it looked very unfinished (in a good way) it had a mechanical look.
Yeah I think that it looks a lot cooler. But I hope that most of it will be compatible because I dobn’t want to buy the new Vex System cuz I already have the current one
I want to be able to buy “New Vex” peices, and add to my 3 Vex Starter Kits…
I think that the new vex system will probly be cheaper to make because its in plastic. If it is compatible the old vex should still be stronger and more sturdy than the new plastic counter parts which are more financialy friendly. They should keep both systems on the market depending on what quality of part or strength you want. i think the metal look is kinda retro.
quantity over quality
is the new set really plastic? because if it is, then thats terrible, all of the structural integrity is lost.
also, the sensors better be compatible, because i am not buying another starter kit.
Look at the magazine picture. It sure looks to me to be plastic or thin metal with a platic coating. If it is plastic it will definetly be lighter but the structeral strength will be less. I will get the new parts and if they are compatible i will use the metal for the chassis and the plastic stuff for arms or components that dont have to be as strong. It would also alow higher gear ratios for more speed because of how light plastic is.
The robot shown in the picture is standard Vex metal with a Black coating instead of the typical Clear coating.
Again,
These are two entirely different kits, people who already own the Vex Design System should not be worrying about whether the products they own will work with the new kit. The new kit is a stand alone product from which some parts may work with the existing Vex Starter Kit.
We will continue to expand BOTH product lines.

Thanks for the “clarification”…
Any other “points” you can share with us??
The Motors and Gears look the same, except Red (That would be cool to mix and match with the Green Vex v.5).
I want the Claw (accually my son Wants the Claw, I want to make him happy, and I guess I want the Claw too) and some of the New Metal designs…
ya green and red you could make a cristmas bot lol:D
The magic of Hollywood…
The motors on the robot in the picture actually ARE existing Vex motors. We simply spray-painted the Red onto them. This is a very early “eye-candy” model designed to communicate the overall visual look of the new Vex kit. The design in the picture is very similar to what the final design will be, but there are some differences; using existing Vex motors as a “stand in” is one of these differences.

The Truth comes out!!
So the Gears are spray-painted too??
I guess there is still “many things” to Determine/Design/Build for the Revell Monogram Vex, things you don’t even know yet…
I guess the question is… If something (like the Claw or Cool ‘C’ Channel Metal) is developed for the Revell Monogram Vex that is not Directly Compatible with the Vex v.5 , will there be a Vex v.5 version made as well?
The “real sad thing” would to be an “early adopter” of Vex v.5, and then see something for the Revell Monogram Vex that is “very” close, but not compatible with the Vex v.5. One might ask them selfs, why it could have not been designed to work with both, or at least offer a Version for each Vex line. Understanding of course, the needing to make a Profit (to fund further development, of course).
Will their be any new motors? Will they be more powerful?
