Competition autonomous

hello!

basically, our team and many others have had issues with the consistencies of fields and autonomous.

for most of us, we program an autonomous at our home fields with a specific setup, but when converted to competition fields, somehow precise movements seem to be off by 1-2 inches.

for example, for our recent competition on 2/8 (using lemlib), we had a program that would score the alliance stake, then clamp a goal and score 2 more rings. it was consistent when testing at home, but on the day of the competition, it was off.
this also happened for our programming skills and our competition on 1/25. (using ez template v3.2.2)

this wasn’t an issue on our competition at 12/14 (ez template v3.1.9 or 3.1.8), and all autonomous we coded at home were consistent and functional at the competition

do you think this different in movements is due to different fields at home, or something related setup? could it also be related to the software and programming?

are you in NY south we had comps on those days? our wall stakes are different then in comp. same with the alliance stake. all I can see doing is to make your goal clamp have a bigger margin of error.

we found the issue: there are multiple things that can inconsistent from field to field and with movements

  1. EZ-template swing turns: we used swing turns a lot with our more recent autons, and it takes two values: moving side speed and other side speed. We used the opposite side speed to make it wider/sharper, but it would be very inconsistent. For example we used 127 and 30 for these but sometimes it would be sharper and wider than other times, which was bad for prog skills and our solo awp.
  2. Field tape. Often times our setup was based on field tape lines, which could be set up offset at comps. This happened at our home field.
