Last year for the Round Up competitions I noticed that some of the competitions fields didn’t have the white tape, they just laid out the foam mats. So does anyone know if it is mandatory to have the tape on the competition floor this year? Because you need it to line up the different goals and donuts, and you can also use it for autonomous with the line followers. But I don’t want to make a whole autonomous program to find out that some competitions aren’t putting down the tape.

An official tournament field has the tape lines on it; therefore:
At a scrimmage the lines can be left off.
At a tournament where no absolutely one cares, I can imagine that the lines might be left off; and like a tree falling in the forest with no one around to hear it, the absence of the lines might get ignored by everyone invloved. However, if you want to design a robot or strategy that uses the lines, then you may insist that all Tournament fields you are offered, must have the lines.
If anyone disagrees just point to the rulebook.
