Confused about rule SC5

In the rule it says in the case of a tie it will go down this list.

It seems like number 2 and 3 directly contradict each other. Because number two is how upright it is and number three is how angled it is towards the corner.

Nowhere does it mention angle… if two Mobile Goals are Placed, and equally vertical, the one with top furthest into corner is placed.

Good luck with your season!

As you note, you go down the list. Whichever situation is true first, that is the placed goal. So if two goals are equal in step one, but one is more vertical, that is the placed goal and you ignore the rest of the list.

To get to step three the goals would need to be leaning at the same angle (or both upright) and the distinction for the third test would likely be a tiny difference… something like the rotation of the cap maybe?

I’ll grant you, step three doesn’t seem to exclude nearly as much as the first two.

Just because 2 mobile goals are at the same angle relative to vertical doesn’t mean the stakes are pointed in the same direction - for example one could be pointed right at the corner, while the other is pointing away. Then the one pointing at the corner would win by criterion 3 (assuming they’re tied on 1 and 2).

If the 2 or more mobile goals that are tied for the position of scored per criteria 2, the mobile goals are at the same angle relative to the foam tiles. This does not mean that the mobile goals are facing the same direction, so one mobile goal could potentially have the flexible top stick farther into the corner and tie on the previous 2 criteria.
