Controller Feedback During Auton

So I’m aware that you are not allowed to use the controller in any way during auton (to control your bot). However, would it be considered legal if the controller only provided feedback during auton? As in the controller screen prints different things and/or vibrates in certain sequences to allow us, the drivers, to know if everything is going to plan and what the robot is deciding to do next (working on a fairly complex odometry system with different capabilities). If I must refer to a game, let it be this last season (Tower Takeover). I only asked because I assumed the printing could be acceptable but I wasn’t too sure about the vibrating, so I decided I might as well ask about both.

check this out

I don’t mean for the controller to act as a switch or to provide any input to the brain, but for the brain to send the controller information to print. All that’s happening is the controller is vibrating and printing information based off of what the brain is currently running for auton. Would that be legal? My main concern is with the vibrating.

yeah that would be fine. If you can program it and make it work with the competition switch, there isn’t really anything stopping you.

Do you know if its possible for the brain to send signals to the controller during autonomous? We don’t have access to our robot or field right now to test so I was just wondering if anyone can confirm or deny this.

Depends what you mean by getting signals. You can send text to the controller and have it printed on the display of the V5 Joystick Controller.

I did a quick check and someone pointed me to two teams that sent rumble commands to their controller during autonomous. So it looks to be possible but we don’t know how a ref would rule. It seems to me that doing so should not violate the rules which is governed by <G10> for TT. The key word is “interact”.

<G10> Autonomous means “no humans”. During the Autonomous Period, Drive Team Members are
not permitted to interact with the Robot in any way, directly or indirectly. This could include, but is not
limited to:
• Activating any controls on their VEXnet Joysticks or V5 Controllers.
• Unplugging or disconnecting from the field in any way.
• Triggering sensors (including the Vision Sensor) in any way, even without touching them.

ed: fixed G10 reference

Common sense - human not controlling robot.

Refs will be fine
