cortex controller problem

we have just got a new cortex, and its having connection problems.
we have it all set up properly, and are programming with easyc v4, we have a simple program, so thats not it, and we have reset the controller and micro controller and have also downloaded new firm ware. we have tried driving it tethered and that works fine, so which to me means that its the usb keys.
does anyone have a solution or anything that will help?

Have your tried a different set of USB Keys??? Then switch one of the USB Keys, to see if the problem returns or not…

we did try switching them and the same thing happens after a random time period

Could it be related to the thread Joystick Controller Problem.

we did try taking it out to the parking lot, thankfully it was not raining, and out of wifi range, i was doubtful that that was the reason because we had been running the vex net upgrade kits in our lab before, and had no problem even though our school uses cisco, i am no almost certain that it is a hardware fault in the joystick radio, luckily we have 3  so i am wondering what you do to return it, if you can that is

It might still be under Warranty… Contact your Vex Suppler and see if you can get it exchanged… Also the school might have changed the Ciscos since you used the original VEXnet…

yeah i dont think they did cause the original vexnet worked just the other day. but thanks for your help. our teacher is going to contact vex, is there any possibility that the firmware on the joystick is not functioning properly? because i did upgrade it.

One thing that might help is reading

“having connection problems” is near the classic “doesn’t work”,
and also jumps to conclusions.

There are lots of LEDs whose patterns mean specific things, but you are not describing them.

I had a similar sounding problem with a joystick. There is flash memory onboard the CPU chip in the joystick, and it occasionaly gets erased incorrectly due to low batteries (per SeanD). I was able to get mine to work by a trying the seemingly endless combinations of ordering of these usual things, over several days:

  • link to cortex with A-A cable
  • Hold the config button on the Joystick until you get the different blink pattern
  • power on, power off, unload the batteries, wait
  • link with Vexnet keys
  • check/download the firmware update

You experienced similar issues with the VEXnet Keys, but not with the A-A Cable??? I would guess that the Flash is used for the VEXnet pairing, amongst other things…
