My students won the driver skills challenge this weekend and we now have the invite to Create US Open Championship in Council Bluffs. I have been in vex for 4 years and have never heard of it. Anyone been there? Is it worth the trip? Worth the money?
It is worth the time and money to attend the event. I have gone since Gateway and CREATE has never disappointed me. Top tier teams from around the country (and around the world last year) compete together in an intense battle to win US Nationals. This competition is a good prequel to Worlds as you can compete with and against high-level teams and watch strategies play out. We have never regretted going.
Great job at Warren.
Like stated before me it’s a great event. But don’t go there expecting worlds it isn’t on the same level. However, it’s still a really great event. For me I only go if A the money is there or B I haven’t qualified for worlds. A lot of teams go to both, but most only go to one.
Here is some match video from last year if you wanna check out how it goes. It is similar to worlds just not on the same scale.
And to put in a plug… the Omaha / Council Bluffs area is a great place to visit. Among other attractions there is a world class zoo less than 15 minutes from the facilities that the US Open is held in. It’s an easy but long ( ~9 hours) drive on I-74 and I-80 from Indianapolis to Omaha.
