Custom license plates and 3d-printing

Dear Forum, what’s your favorite and best way to create custom license plate? If it’s through 3d-printing, may I ask how can I make my plate less brittle (they’re snapping all the time)?

I’m not sure what the best way to create custom plates would be (I assume you have tried CAD software?). TinkerCAD is great for simple stuff like this. As for the brittle plates there are a lot of potential problems. What material are using? If it’s PLA, then keep in mind that older spools of filament that have been left out absorb moisture and become much more brittle, you can dry the spool to help that. This pretty much applies to any kind of filament too. Also check your slicer settings. Do 3 or 4 perimeters/walls, and set infill to 100%. Also try printing slower and make sure your nozzle temperature is on the higher end of the filament’s temperature range. If the plate itself is quite thin, consider scaling it up in the slicer so that it is thicker.
