Some Problems about new vex-u robot rule, it says that I can use 12 motors but no any other actuators are allowed, does it means that I can not use any air cylinder ?
Please notice that this question is coming up with the new vex-u rule not the ms or hs version
Before answer.please check 3rd floor’s answer
Yes. If you have 12 motors, no pneumatics whatsoever, if you want pneumatics you can only have 10 motors. The air cylinder is not allowed if you have 12 motors.
The intent of the rule is to allow teams that either don’t have access to pneumatic components or who choose not to use them (may simply be down to design) to still be competitive in a game. It sure is a lot cheaper to purchase two extra motors then a pneumatics kit that may not even always be of use (because its use may be limited by the design etc).
@Mystical Pie @EvolvingJon OP’s question was regarding VEXU, not VRC. In Appendix E for next year’s game they state in VUR4 that
however it does not mention any ruling on the use of pneumatics in the document, which is what he was trying to get clarification on.
Yes and please check the VUR 8 ,I am not sure that does the actuators include cylinder
It is the same as last year, this is directly out of the StarStruck manual.
<R11> Robots may use either:
Option 1: Up to ten (10) VEX EDR motors or VEX Servos (Any combination, up to ten) and a legal
VRC pneumatic system. (See <R18>)
Option 2: Up to twelve (12) VEX EDR motors or VEX Servos (Any combination, up to twelve) and no
pneumatic components, excluding pneumatic tubing.
a. 2-Wire Motors must be controlled by a 2-Wire Motor Port, either directly on a VEX
Microcontroller (P/N 276-2194), or on a “VEX Motor Controller 29” module.
b. Teams may NOT use multiple 2-wire Motor Ports, 3-wire PWM Motor Ports, or Motor
Controller 29 modules on a single motor.
<R18> Pneumatic devices may only be charged to a maximum of 100 psi. Teams may only use a
maximum of two (2) legal VEX pneumatic air reservoirs on a Robot.
Again this is from the VRC manual, in the past it has been both pneumatics and 12 motors(nbn)
The rules about pneumatics/motors aren’t different than last year, except, of course, only building one 24" bot rather than the typical two.
Which is why I’m waiting to see what VEXU leviathans are placed on the fields!
I didnot play the nbn. actually the last game Iplay is sand attack and I was a high school student at that time
Sand attack you mean sack attack?
yes sack attack
Haha, well, if it’s any consolation, you freaked me out too until I read last year’s (NBN) rules.
