I recently mistakenly plugged in a smart port into the legacy field control port on my v5 controller and has made the controller impractical for competition use since it is unable to run autonomous and a few other things so I took the controller apart to see what was wrong and I found a cooked chip
I was wondering if someone could attempt to identify this chip and let me know what chip I could buy to unsolder and solder on a new one to use as a non competition controller we can use as a dedicated skills test controller or something at school
I don’t know the answer to your question, but be warned that modifying VEX electronics, even for well-intentioned repairs like this, is illegal. The only legal way to fix this is to ship it to VEX and ask them to repair it.
I am fully aware of the consequences and understand the risk I think that the upsides of having a controller that works perfectly at school is much greater then the downsides of not being able to use it in a competition
It’s a quad TVS diode protecting the competition control lines and controller from static. Best thing would be to find a RJ45 dust cover and block the port.
