I’d be really interested in seeing how much lbs of metal vex sends out or just other statistics! Maybe how much feet of elastic tubing vex has sent out.
But, next thing you know, everybody says “Oh it’s too small, we just won’t bother”. Then nothing at all gets recycled and we are somewhat screwed. 
what if you melted down the cut-off ends of the zip ties and used them to mold your own custom parts. would using vex zip ties to do this be vex legal?

maybe even send them back to vex to be remelted and get a discount. lol
But some things aren’t too small! Like bottles make a huge difference! But seriously it’s just not worth the effort to save Vex zip ties lol. And not only that, but the numbers here are assuming 300 ties per robot. Seriously, if you’re using 300 ties you’re doing something wrong. Our 2 teams didn’t use more than 100 total this year.

Wiring, mostly. You need to keep everything secure, organized and out of the way.
When you have around 500 feet of extension cable on a robot, it becomes a necessity.

Exactly haha. Most people do not have 500ft of wiring on their robots.

No, that was an extreme exaggeration. Between the Motor Controller 29s on nearly all of the motors, an obsession with Y-Cables, a ton of sensors, and the Pneumatic cylinders, we have a LOT of cable extensions. Mounting our Cortex in a stupid place certainly didn’t help.
Maybe it’s more like 25 feet. I have no idea, we never measured. But either way, if you do the wiring right you use a ton of zip ties. You bind individual cables together into bundles, then tie the bundles to the metal. Keep them out of the way of moving parts so that they don’t come loose, and the ends don’t pull apart.
I still sincerely doubt you have 200 zip ties…
Are you coming to Worlds? You can look at our bot.
We like our wiring clean and nice. We don’t want a lot hanging out, so we use a lot of zip-ties. We first bundle stuff up, then make a bigger bundle which is then bundled to metal. Zipties are also used to hold our mesh on and other things.
Unfortunately not - we didn’t qualify ( perhaps due to our lack of zip ties

Before Worlds 2011, our team was making a tube-hoarding add-on for our robot out of anti-slip mesh. We went through 100+ zip ties in 1 build session.
Someone mentioned the neon zip-ties that you get for passing inspection at Worlds. I wonder what the refs would say if these zip-ties were attached to the robot in such a way that they violated the 18" size limit? The attachments that signify our robot’s legality, making our robot illegal… 
I have personally used like over 700 zip ties and I only started in December… I am not sure how you guys use so few…
See we use twisty ties and then replace them with zip ties later. That way it’s very easy to make changes. If you’re using 700 zip ties, then that’s just plain wasteful.
