Hi, I just wanted to ask if making a robot like this is worth it. So this robot can score in both goals at once, but then it’s not built for passing. Therefore, if the other team doesn’t have passing, we can’t get high scores for the match. I Just wanted to hear your opinions!!
I personally think this will be the meta for this season, so I think it is a good idea. You still can get passes. Read SC5 for the actual rule: RapidRelay-1.1.pdf (vexrobotics.com)
Agreed with @BananaPi that this will be this year’s meta design.
You can still design it to score one ball per shot, in the event your teamwork challenge bot pairing is slow to load+pass to you and/or you don’t want to wait until you’ve been passed 2 balls before shooting.
However, 2-shot bots are great for skills (driving and auton) especially with the additional rapid load time periods and the fact that you’re not reliant on another bot/passing for the score multipliers.
For now, this is the meta. However, I would take note it is (likely) in the next month or so it will definitely loose its value.
Thank you for your reply. I never considered the skills challenge and only planed about the teamwork challenge.
Our team just started building the drivetrain, so I’ll take that into consideration.
Then, does that mean that if our team just touches the ball and let it go if the other team catches the ball is it considered a pass?
Correct, Robot 1 simply needs to contact a ball (e.g. thrown, nudged, brought into and immediately reversed out of the intake, etc.) and then that same ball be similarly contacted by Robot 2…that’s a pass. It does not have to be a pass through the air as demonstrated in the game preview video.
Some things to note (when you read and interpret the rules):
-
A single ball can only be credited with a single “pass” while in play. It must leave the field of play (ideally through scoring in a goal) and then be reloaded through the Loading Station in order to “reset” that ball’s passing value to zero. This prevents teams from simply passing the small ball back and forth to rack up “passes” before then focusing on scoring goals.
-
At the end of the teamwork challenge match, you’ll only receive a passing score multiplier (i.e. the total # of successful passes) equivalent to the number of balls successfully scored in a goal. So even if you passed 10 times but only scored 8 goals (e.g. 2 flew off over the goal and out of play) then you’ll have 8 (passes and goals scored) multiplied by the number of switches cleared + 1 point per switch cleared + 1 point per ball scored without a pass.
-
Only balls loaded through the Loading Station OR those that started that match preloaded in your bot are eligible for earning a “passing” credit. Rapid Load balls will not; though you can still pass them, you won’t get a passing credit for those.
Hope that helps!
Yes. Passing should be fairly simple, just make sure your drivers are aware of this and maybe have them practice passing with an other robot.
Also, try to not use so many short posts. You can use the “Quote” button by either highlighting the text and pressing the button:
