I see almost every school has its own field that they can practice on?
I used to do this when I was in VIQC, but honestly it does not make that much of a difference if the team that you are with in the teamwork challenge is pretty decent. There should also be some practice fields at the competition which you can use. If you are kind with whoever is using this practice field, you can usually find a way to share the field.
knowing my team’s luck we are thinking to bring our field state competition
You want to also check with the event partner because sometimes they do not allow you to bring your field as they may not have space. I remember driving three hours to state with a field and they didn’t let us use it.
I would check with the EP before doing this at the local/state level, they may or may not be expecting this and there may or may not be room in the pits for teams to set up their own fields.
I know there wouldn’t be room for teams to bring their own fields at WV states, or at most of the IQ qualifiers we run.
On the other hand, this is quite common at Worlds; since the pit areas there are 10’x10’, the IQ field will fit comfortably within a team’s pit.
We run events where teams bring fields for us to compete on. For a 20 robot event, we will have 4 playing fields and a practice field. That’s how we can get so many qualification matches into a 3 hour period.
Check with your EP like @forzapixel and @holbrook said. They may be happy for you to bring a field for everyone to practice on. But don’t just show up with it.
