Is there a way I can download a program from the brain? Our computer crashed with a faulty hard drive and we lost all the progress on our latest autonomous program, And states is five days away. Can someone help? Thanks!
I know this post was for VCS, but @jpearman was saving the source code to the brain ever implemented?
Yes and no, unfortunately more no than yes.
The brain has the capability to do this, but it’s not been implemented on the VEXcode (or PROS etc.) side. Which is a shame, because its technically not that difficult (all source would be compressed into a zip or gzip file file and sent to the brain along with the other files we send).
Thank you @jpearman and @sazrocks for the prompt replies! Can the program be read from the brain? or are pretty much dead in the water and start from scratch again?
Sorry, I wasn’t clear. No, you cannot get anything useful back from the brain.
Loud and clear now!
Well, I guess you could still get back the binary, the download command seems to be there, right?
If for nothing else, you would be able to back up your brain or transplant the files from one brain to another (in the unlikely event that all of the below happens: 1. a port dies at the tournament, 2. your programmer is missing, 3. you have a spare brain available).
Note: I am not currently aware of any public tool that actually implements the download from the brain, but I am working on that capability in a context of a larger project…
If downloading it from the brain doesn’t work, my suggestion would be to run the code and try to re code it with what you see your robot do
