Dr4b or Dr6b

I saw a lot of teams in skyrise use DR6B. So I wonder if a DR4B isn’t tall enough for an entire skyrise.

But any cone you touch, plus the ones above it do not count as stacked

The ruling states you need to grab it, if touching is accedental youll be fine

The ruling states you can intentionally touch/hold the cones

Because that was Skyrise. I don’t think that the stacks will be anywhere near the height of a Skyrise, so if we do see DR6B it’s probably going to be at the end of the season.

And yes, no DR4B is tall enough to build a full Skyrise pole.

A full skyrise was 60". 20 cones is 64.25", so I think we’ll start seeing similar heights midseason at the latest.

As for a DR4B, a decent estimate of height would be 18" tower + 18" first 4 bar + 4" for gears + 18" second 4 bar = 58" + object manipulator.

What you have to remember is that every cone that you stack on one stack, you are not stacking that cone on any other stack. The rational alliance would evenly distribute their cones among a number of stacks, in order to give them the best chances of winning the 5pt highest stack bonus

That would require you to remain in contact with only a single mobile goal the entire game though.

I say a DR4B is better, because of its less weight, and simplicity.

It’s pretty useless to go taller than 55 inches this year, and if your robot is capable it’s probably not as fast as if you had made it shorter.
I’m saying 15 will be the number teams go for all season, including world finals. It’s really more about speed than height; the 5 pt bonus is easily overcome with 3 cones on another goal.

agreed.

In Skyrise there were a few teams that could do it, including the MS World Champions, 8066 teams and also some other teams form Singapore i think, like some of the 8068 teams. But majority of the RD4Bs were unable to score a full Skyrise.
Correction: Also the 8059 teams.

All Singapore teams used dr4b for skyrise.
dr4b is tall enough.

eg.

Don’t forget about the DR4-6 bar because you could use that as a good medium, though I haven’t tested it, only seen teams use it, but it looks like a stable design, any thoughts?

I really don’t like the mix type designs because they forego one of the biggest advantages of DR lifts: the virtually completely linear movement of the lift. The having imperfect up-down track really adds a bit of a learning curve for the driver in my opinion, and can also lead to tipping.

Would a DR6B go straight up and down, the same way as the DR4B

Bold move on reviving an old thread (you should never really do that), but yes a dr6b will go straight up and down.

I’m kind of new to Vex so I don’t really know that much about reviving old threads. i couldn’t find very many about the DR6B. But isn’t it supposed to be called the TR6B? Triple reverse 6 bar lift?

No, DR6B is the widely used name. You should start a topic for any other questions you have.

@93870A But there are 3 reverable actions in that kind of lift.
