DR4B vs Tray Stacker

Actually, towers will always be important. You could spend the whole match putting up 3 stacks of 7.
I could just put up 1 stack of 7, and score 3 cubes in towers and have the same score as you. And in a fraction of the time.

While you put up 7 i could easily get 10 cubes of that color.

My bro. This is pretty similar to bayes theorem from stats. If somebody puts up three stacks of seven and only 1/3 of the are purple (b/c there are 3 colors), then that person has seven purple cubes. On the other hand, the person with one stack of all purple has the same amount of purple cubes, however the first person has 14 extra cubes and thus fourteen extra points. It’s also important to note that cubes in towers impact all cubes of that color. This, in my opinion, statistically proves that it would be more beneficial to pick up 21 random cubes instead of 7 specific cubes.

If anybody wants to propose the issue of probability, just understand that stats is probability. There is always a chance that both sides can win, but I’m just trying to say that by picking up all types of cubes, you generally have a better chance at winning.

I also want to thank @Russell1022 for spawning such a nice conversation abt tower takeover strategy in multiple threads. I’d love to see how views on different strategies evolve over time

I like this theorem.
However, we are basing a lot of our predictions off of chinese matches. From what I have seen here in the US, in my area at least, the towers have always been the deciding factor. Heck, a clawbot alliance beat a traybot alliance because they could control the towers

You should see mainland BC finals. Its like china, but china was hella good at defence.

How does that work out? As of now, I’m assuming that within the first minute of driver control, both alliances would be done stacking cubes, leaving both sides to focus on towers for 45 seconds. I understand that saying a clawbot alliance would win is a bit of a hyperbole to get the point across (though still possible), wouldn’t two good complex trays be able to beat most alliances using their own lifts? I’m assuming that the opposing alliance is going to have at least one clawbot to be sort of consistent with your previous post.

Each alliance usually has 1 traybot and 1 clawbot. Both traybots are usually about the same at stacking, so it really comes down to what clawbots do with the towers.

I think 2 traybots are probably better. 1 of the tray bots plays agressive defense, and the other traybot picks up cubes. When its done picking up cubes they switch. Playing against dr4bs one bot would defend thr traybot, the traybot would stack, faster than the dr4b.

A tray lift alliance is still better than 2 trays because the lift plays defense while the tray stacks, then the tray plays defense while the lift towers. This means the match is always a 1v1 in favor of the lift tray alliance. (Assuming the tray is the best tray there)

Then y not just have a rly good push bot and a tray bot?

Towers

For half the match, the tower bot is basically a defense robot. As such, the situation becomes “do you want to have rly good defense for an entire match or okay defense and good towers”. While it will mainly depend on the drivers and how they feel like playing, I think that rly good defense that can juggle between two opponents and protect their alliance partner (and prevent the opponent from scoring) is a much better option. Especially if the opposite alliance can’t score well because of the defense

Haha lol. We had that once…and it didn’t go well. Partially bc the traybot’s motors fried but still…

I’ve seen quite a few posts so far saying that a tray lift combo is better than a double tray bot alliance. Quite frankly we’re pretty much half way through the season for the teams that started around when school got back from break and the alliance that’s been consistently winning everywhere I’ve seen has been the double tray alliances. I have yet to see a tray lift combo outperform the aforementioned alliance. Granted, there’s the possibility that a tray lift alliance could outperform a double tray one but given that lifts are still inferior to trays at this point in the season I don’t see them catching up much less surpassing a wide array of the tray bots out there. Just my two cents :person_shrugging:

This channel describes the differences btw 2 designs, but what if they were combined together, taking the best of both designs. I hope it inspires people or helps in the overall design process, as it is a combination of a tray stacker and a DR4B, we are rebuilding to make it more efficient and faster, and increasing the cube capacity from 8 to 9.

6 motor drive, 1 motor lift, and 1 motor intake would yield a bot that has really good defense and towers in my opinion

that looks really tippy

I really like that. that dr4b looks very space efficient, most complex trays with dr4b arms I’ve seen are very bulky. is that on a 1:5 ratio with one motor?

Does a DR4B need a 4M drivetrain?

They run a 2m lift on 1:5 100rpm if I remember correctly.
