Drive-Intake-PTO Experiences

Hello. My team and I are planning to create a robot that shares 2 motors out of 6 from the drive (3.25" 360 RPM) to the intake in a PTO system. Before finalizing this change, I wanted to ask the forum on their experiences with such a PTO. For some background, our team is quite experienced, and has great build quality. We feel that such a PTO would be beneficial for a stronger drive and stronger intake, especially as more matches are able to exhaust discs quicker. Our main concern is whether past implementations of this configuration have led to burnout and/or failure.
Thank you in advance.

I built on on my first build this year and while it was cool and functional, I would say that it is just not worth it. Just go with a straight 6 motor drive. We found that a transmission took a while to build and tune, was annoying to code, and took too much time while driving. All in all, the cons outweighed the pros for us. You may find different results with your team, but this was our experience.

Interesting… Thank you for your feedback. By saying “too much time in driving” do you mean that the PTO took too long to switch, or something else?

There was a noticeable delay between when I pressed the intake button and when the intake started to spin (maybe a second to a second and a half). Additionally, I felt like it was a lot to keep track of while I was driving (although I was driving at a tournament with not nearly enough practice, so that may have been my issue).
