For robot skills. Can we start the robot on one side and have drive team member on both sides of the field?
Looking at the manual for skills challenge (https://www.robotevents.com/index.php/events/38856/uploads/4914/download) it says that you can start the robot on either side. Further, there was a Q&A answer Clarification of Alliance Station in Skills Challenge : Robot Events which says if you start the robot on one side, you can use either of the driver’s stations. The official Q&A did not say “either or both,” so, unless you want to have your mentor/EP ask an additional clarifying question on the official Q&A, I would interpret this as the whole drive team needs to choose an alliance station (unless you’re a U-team using both robots for skills).
i belive u can i have no offical proofbut in many skills runs i have seen in person and online i have seen people on bolthsides one to drive and the other to help with stacking orientation
I think you can. I’ve done it in the past and so have other teams. You just can’t have more than 3 people up there I think.
This doesn’t sound right.
For all the past Seasons, teams were never allowed to have an extra pair of eyes at the other side of the field.
You can choose any side of the field to start or to stand, but you can’t use both side of the field at the same time.
I would suggest an official Q&A to clarify this.
I believe @Avonderweidt is referring to this video:
As you can see, each member of the team is on the opposite side of the field, with the non-driver presumably making sure the stacks stay up.
I had the same thought when I first saw this video, surely the drive team must remain in the drive station.
Here lies the problem (not the grammar, but the statement): while a local tournament volunteer might let it happen, state/regional/worlds officials will hold a strict interpretation of the rules as given in the game manual and supplemented by Q&A rulings.
When my students showed me this video, my 1st comment to them was that it doesn’t seem right to have someone standing at the other side.
But I know a lot depends on the EP on what they allowed or don’t allowed.
I would really suggest that there is an official Q&A on this to clarify the official ruling.
I can’t post on the official Q&A yet… as my teams are not registered yet.
I would remember the following statement in the Game Manual appendix for skills:
Please note that all rules from “The Game” section of the manual apply to the Robot Skills Challenge, unless otherwise specified.
so, my strict interpretation is that Drive Team members need to stay together in their chosen alliance station. As there is no indication that Drive Team members can be on any side of the field.
Until there is a Q&A response, there is no indication that Drive team members outside a defined alliance station marking. Moreover, EPs must make great care that there are never more than three Drive Team members that are acting in the role drive team members.
I think in NBN you are allowed? Can’t recall for now but you won’t be able to load all driver loads if you can’t move to the other side
We need to always bear in mind that there were quite a fair bit of oddities for nbn… mainly because of the big amount of match loads involved.
And for nbn, the loader can stationed at the other alliance station, while the driver remained at the opposite side.
But the intention was to load the match load.
For this season, there are really no reason to allow a team mate to be at the other side.
