Driving at States

A lot of people have been saying this and I’ve never really thought about it but at states is their only one driver allowed per team if it’s not dual control? What I mean is, is switching drivers within teams allowed at states?

G6 Drive your own Robot. Each Team shall include up to three Drive Team Members. No Drive Team Member may fulfill this role for more than one Team in a given competition season.

Please refer to General Game Rules within the Game Manual for further clarification on rules regarding the drive team.

Rules do not change at state tournaments, the rules apply equally no matter what event you are attending. If you don’t have dual controls, then obviously you would only have one driver, however, you can still have up to three drive team members present for each team, regardless if you have one or two controllers according to the game definitions.

Drive Team Member – Any of the three (3) Students allowed in the Alliance Station during a Match for each Team. Only Drive Team Members are allowed to touch the controls at any time during the Match or interact with the Robot as per . Adults are not allowed to be Drive Team Members.

Hopefully, this answers your question.

Like @AidenPyle said, no one is allowed to be a Drive Team Member for more than one team in a season*.

(With a few exceptions.)

In certain cases, someone may be allowed to serve as a drive team member for one team and then permanently switch to being a drive team member for another team. For example, if someone permanently changes teams because they moved, or there was conflict within the team. This was described in a Q&A answer several months ago.

You can have multiple drivers, as long as none of them have been a Drive Team Member (i.e. standing at the field during a match) for another team this season. You could even have a non-drive-team member of another team join your team’s drive team, as long as they don’t serve on the drive team for their other team until next season.

That is unfortunately illegal

Team is number and letter. Your case seems fine, meepmeepme, as it sounds like a permanent swap.

Just curious. What would your definition of “permanently” be? As in, for the rest of the season? (An organization could pair their best Driver with their best robot for State or Worlds) (Or have a driver who didn’t qualify be on Drive Team for another team that is really light on attendees)
