Due to an accident when the robot was driving the dual action piston on our robot was slightly damaged.

When the dual action piston is pushed out most of the way it slides easily, but as you push it back in farther it slides roughly instead of smoothly.

Your air cylinder is ruined…you have bent the piston rod. Since these are non-repairable air cylinders you’ll need to replace it. Some types of larger air cylinders (typically 1" or more bore) can be disassembled to repair the seals, springs, or even the piston inside the cylinder. Since your air cylinder is already ruined, you could try to see where the piston rod is bent and see if you might bend it back. Can’t hurt, but it will never be the same.
