Which system should we use, I say that Backroller is better than Dual Cata, but my teammate says that we should use Dual Cata. We are considering this for teamwork and for skills Autonomous and Driver Skills. Which one is the best to use.
Having built both (and having been sucessfull with a double cata) I would say the back roller is better at passing and skills (intake extention). I also feel like the double cata is more difficult to tune, especially if you want to be able to score one ball as well. If you have the parts to, I would try to build one drivetrain base, and a back roller and double cata that can be added to the drivetrain. If not, I would build a back roller.
Do you have pneumatics?
No we don’t have pneumatics
I am the teammate with Trish and we don’t have pnematics.
Depends on how you want to score.
The dual cata may be easier/faster to build with multiple resources. It also has a better consistency of scoring goals. Great option for scoring in the upper/high goals.
Not the best option for passing, but still works. Teams score pretty high.
The backroller may be faster at scoring, but have a lower consistency. However, it’s efficient for passing. This is a great option for lower goals. Teams score high with this one as well.
It would be helpful if you updated us on what you built.
We’ve tried both options, & both worked well.
Back Roller in my opinion is more difficult to build but much more effective than Dual Catapult. Having run a 4 motor drive on both I can assure you the speed difference is nothing and we can get triple the skills score with Back Roller then Dual Catapult. It also (As BananaPi said) is better a passing but also is quite good at being the shooting robot in teamwork due to it’s quick low shots. Despite not having pneumatics, the Back Roller is completely feasible with a 2 Motor Drive, 1 Motor Catapult, 1 Motor Back Roller, and 2 Motor Intake. I would recommend a much lighter frame for it as it would be 2 Motor Drive and a 2.5:1 Gear Ratio for the drivetrain. Back Roller is just as consistent if not more at scoring goals due to the speed at which it can output them into the low goal. Another benefit I can think of for Back Roller over Dual Catapult is that Dual Catapult has downtime on the Catapult Reload which Back Roller only has to experience at most once a match because there is no need to shoot top switches multiple times. All in all, I believe (skills/ teamwork scores also agree with this) that Back Roller is much superior to Dual Catapult. Although being more difficult to build, with good effort it is much more worth it.
We also were thinking that !
Thanks for the feedback, we decided on backroller and it may take more time, but it will be worth the time spent.
