The team that I coach typically doesn’t have the opportunity to compete on elevated fields until the World Competition. This year’s game involves teams to manual load of all of the game balls into the robot at a very quick pace. At all of our matches to date, the balls have been held in a box on the floor outside of the field. This means that the person loading the balls can kneel down and use both hands to transfer the balls from the box to the playing field. What will this be like at World’s with an elevated field? If the container for holding the balls is on the floor, there is a much longer reach to transfer the balls from the container to the robot which could add significant delay. Will a platform to rest the balls on be available? Can teams provide something elevate the balls off the floor and closer to the field? How is this being handled by other who are already competing on elevated fields?
I asked on the official q+a if teams could bring something to the field to help elevate the balls, Karthik said no. I hope they provide something, if skills is run with elevated fields without something to hold the box it’ll be harder, you’d have to have the two people loading the bot hold the box against the field with their knees or something to keep it up. I’ll ask on the official worlds q+a.
If you have two people feeding, just have one of them hold the box between their body and the field. It could even be the driver.
Im sure they will provide something with the elevated field problem. Otherwise, it gives people with only 2 on the team (like my team) a serious disadvantage. It take 2 people to feed our robot.
Ya us too, it takes 2-3 people to load our bot, and one teammate sometimes is not able to make it to some competitions, and my next competition I am going solo, hope that doesn’t happen at worlds .
My team competing in the Clash in the Canyon tournament and the middle field was elevated. What my team did was just have one person hold the bucket while one just load the game balls as normal.
