EP Discount Changes

What are the EP thoughts out there on the new limits on EP discounts (only 4 games, the season started with a limit of 3) and the fact that EPs no longer get a trophy pack for free if they host an event? It seems like this will stifle growth of organizations and also make events more expensive for teams to attend.

RECF has always been adapting its support to EPs over the years and experimenting with new models along the way working with the resources they have available (meaning grants from companies) and priorities.

The impact on cost of running events depends on size of events and number of events the EP runs. Trophies don’t have to be VEX branded ones - some EPs make their own custom trophies in their shops.

We run a fair number of events ranging in size and types, so we have always been purchasing trophy packs after the first set. I feel for EPs who run one event and small number of teams - that will impact them.

I will add, there may be an added benefit by reducing the number of discounted Game sets, that it will encourage EPs in the same region to resource share. Fewer game pieces to dispose of at the end of the season.

makes sense for EPs who only host 1-2 events per season; why get an additional game field when you can just borrow one from someone else?

I think if you are getting more than 4 kits you are probably not using them for events. Some EPs are probably giving discounts for their friends. I’m assuming that they looked over their numbers and thought that 4 was a good number.

Seems like adding $5 to the price of the tournament would cover the trophies. So if it’s worth it to you you can get them. I’ve given out certificates in the past and all has been well. One time I gave them a large pizza as we had extra pizza leftover. They were pretty stoked. If you put a little effort into doing something special for the kids it will save you money and the kids might just appreciate it more.

Not necessarily the case. In our region historically the official EP of the state championship uses the event partner discount to buy a stupid number of fields at the start of the season that get loaned out to basically every event in the region, with state championship registration fees covering a big chunk of that cost. This is in part because the state championship needed… I think 8 fields this most recent season?

So this actually makes the model of “don’t have each EP need a bunch of fields and instead share them between events in the region” harder since a single entity can only buy three fields.

So this would complicate things. But the other event partners could buy the fields with their discount and then get reimbursed by the main EP. But I agree it’s not as ideal as just getting it all done at once.

If I was doing it I would have them do a quote and then I would call in and pay for the quotes. Again, a bit of a pain.
