Expansion with no pneumatics

We have a 4 motor drive and a 1 motor intake and a 1 motor catapult but we want to make an expansion mechanism but we don’t have pneumatics. What are some ideas for an expansion?

You could have multiple catapult style launchers with the end being held down by a cam or some other rotating part. Alternatively, you could try to make a deployable scissor wall, but the launchers will cover more tiles.

While a somewhat short thread this question has been asked before linked here. I would definitely look through some of the ideas presented in that thread. In addition, I would look at some of the motorized expansions as many of them could have a motor instead of pneumatics.

Maybe attach some string to a wheel and make a timer that… drops it into your catapult during endgame? Then you could launch it through there.

Another idea is rolling out a 2-motor “mini-bot” which would be hard to do but quite cool and may even get an award.

One idea is a catapult. Slip gear method to launch (rubber bands for tension, when mechanism reaches slipped part of gear it launches forward) or you could also make a drive-away mechanism in which the string simply flips over and you can back away from it

This is what we used it can get 20 tiles (60) points, please just use it for inspiration.

Strings mounted with sticky ends. Drive into the wall near the end of the match. The strings stick to the wall. Then you back away, across the field.

Now you just need some bubblegum, and a ref that won’t flag you for ‘attaching’ to the field.

Wow, a team at my school uses this exact same release mechanism.

@Ottobot How does this work? How does the bar holding down the anchor before it shoot get tensioned down

Perhaps make a video of it shooting or something

Our team made an expansion that used only one motor, and consistently got 16 tiles, and didn’t have any catapults or slingshots.
We made a video explaining it:

Yes, I can get you that video give me a day or two because we have a comp.

Oh I’m so sorry. The idea didn’t work… I’ll explain it to you so you can attempt to replicate a working version. So it’s a small mini catapult (have as many as you want) similar to this video New smaller version of the string launcher vex spin up - YouTube. And then tied to the catapult, is a string that attaches to a extremely short linear slide that when it pulls back it, it cocks the catapults.

LOL I love the idea of a mini-bot. How would you keep the motor cords from being torn out?
