Failure setting program number into robot

when I download to the robot it gives me this error. "Failed to download user’s program file to robot controller. Error ‘Failure setting program number into robot’

Oh, in RobotC

Which version of ROBOTC is being used? You can find this information under the ‘Help -> About ROBOTC’ menu option in ROBOTC, in the bottom left corner of the window that appears.

Please make sure that you have updated the VEX IQ’s Brain, Motor, and Sensor firmwares to the latest version using the VEX IQ Firmware Update (http://www.vexrobotics.com/vexiq/software/firmware).

Once that is done, please walk through the steps outlined in the guide below to configure the IQ for use with ROBOTC. If the process fails at any point, please let me know which step specifically the process fails on, what error message appears, etc and I will be more than happy to assist you further.

Yup. I would the firmware and be sure that it is updated on both the brain and controller. Another suggestion would be to color code your controllers. The kids like to mix up the controllers and blame everyone about why their robot is not working properly. We usually use a piece of colored duct tape and put a piece on both the controller and robot.

JohnWatson,
I am having the same problem. Can you post the “steps outlined in the guide below” or provide the link to this guide.
Thank you,

You may also see this error if you have not downloaded the firmware in RobotC. First ensure your Brain and Controller are up to date. The current updater might give you 1.14 etc. Then in RobotC you must “Download Firmware” as the first step to using RobotC.

If you get Error ‘Failure setting program number into robot’ after the above steps, then just power cycle the brain and it should work. If not please include the steps that result in this error.

Sorry about that; it looks like I forgot the most important part of that post (the actual guide). I have updated that post with the guide, and you can find it at the link below:
