We are a team competing in the middle school division at worlds. We are having a weird issue when we are connected to the field. When we are connected to the field, the drive doesn’t work. But without changing anything we went to the practice fields and it worked fine. We tried driving it for 5 minutes harder than we did in a match, and we didn’t trip anything. We did that with a competition switch. Does anyone have any ideas of why this happens?
If you want to see what happened, watch matches 16, 25, or 45 in the spirit division.
Thanks
EDIT: We are using RobotC 4.06 and the newest version of master firmware on both the cortex and joystick.
I like your approach to testing this - sounds very logical. One my initial thoughts was that possibly you were having issues with a power expander battery connection due to robot interaction in matches, but after looking at your first match it doesn’t look like this is the case (though it may still be something worth checking).
From match 16, it looks like you are burning out/overheating your drive motors. This could be due to the antistatic spray they (according to a member of our team) put on the competition fields, but not the practice fields. Maybe consider gearing down your drive (or putting your motors on torque if they are currently on speed) - a robot that can drive more slowly for a whole match is better than a robot that drives quickly for only a small section of the match!
If you’re having field issues at the World Championship, make sure and ask for the Senior Field Tech in your division and they can definitely help you troubleshoot them.
Field Techs are wearing red shirts all around the event.
