This is geared toward VIQRC Rapid Relay Event Partners or those who have been to tournaments can offer insight. I’m wondering how EPs are setting up fields for Rapid Relay. Are fields being set up on the floor with all the balls being catapulted or on tables? Our tourney fields are going to be in our school gym and I’m trying to decide how to set up fields with timer displays too… especially with loaders moving around the field that could go across the view drivers have of the fields. Im trying to figure out setup for match fields in relation to the bleachers in the gym that are only on one side of the gym where observers will be. My inclination is to rent tables at least for qual match fields since they probably will be on tables for Regionals and Worlds (my school teams haven’t qualified for Worlds in the 2 years we’ve had a VIQRC program…yet🙂). Thanks for any insights or thoughts.
Raising the field would be very good, as you don’t have to bend down to load and strain knees etc.
My guess would be about waist height (of the students) or just below is the sweet spot.
You could probably just borrow some tables from other classrooms, although if that’s inconvenient due to school layout policy etc, as that would be perfect height (ish).
Good luck, and have fun!
I would love it if the field was elevated waist high but I’m fully expecting all the tournaments this year to be just as they were last year…on the floor. I do think most loaders will be throwing the balls and not really running back and forth, so I don’t know that there is much concern about getting in the way of seeing the timer if it was on the floor and/or nearby. We usually have the non-driving driver responsible for calling out the time and counting down.
I run 10 events. About 1/2 of them are on the floor, the rest are on standard tables (so they are a little tall). The one event so far was on the floor and the balls really didn’t go that far away.
Do you happen to have files for 3D printers to print award/year plates for the standard issue VEX IQ trophies? They aren’t shipping for 8 weeks(!!!) and I’m running a tourney in 4. I have a few trophies leftover from previous years, but not the name plates for all of them or the year plates for 24-25.
The award plates are about the same as the ID plates. This is the cad files for them

That should give you a running start on making them.
