Field Setup

I know this had been asked about 2 months ago, but since many teams are starting to practice for Worlds I thought it would be pertinent now.

The rules state that the fields will be raised 24", but do not mention anything match loads and how they will be handled.

  1. Do you have an idea as to how match loads will be stored for use during the match. i.e. box, platform, on the floor.

  2. As we have seen in some of the highest skills scores on video, will whatever is holding the match loads be cantilevered toward the loaders to make it easier to get the balls.

  3. I noticed that during the season not many tournaments on videos had the driver area taped off. However, during our State tournament they enforced the driver area and would not allow students to have any body part beyond the tape (12" from the field), except for reaching in to load, but their knees/feet needed to be behind the tape. This caused some issue for the smaller kids, but seemed like a correct view of the rules. Will World’s have the area taped off and what are the restrictions during loading for skills and matches?

Thanks

TriDragon,
Thanks for these questions. Here are some immediate answers:

  1. We are evaluating how match loads will be stored at the field. At this point, no decision has been made, thus there is no information to share. You can count on each division at Worlds using a uniform method so that there is a “level playing field.” When a decision is made, it will be posted in the VEX Worlds 2016 Q&A document posted on the RobotEvents.com event pages.

  2. No decision has been made on this topic, but I wouldn’t count on it. Again, when a decision is made, it will be posted in the VEX Worlds 2016 Q&A document posted on the RobotEvents.com event pages.

  3. I believe, based upon your description, that the rule was properly enforced at your state championship. As in the past, player stations will be clearly marked and enforced during VEX Worlds.

Good luck at Worlds!
