Flip-out Intake

I’m still quite stumped at how one can make a flip-out intake like 8059D, 333X, and the RI3D robot use. Can someone help me out here?

Think you can try to see the robots from clean sweep season… The legendary GER has very good reveal video on that.

Or you can try to hunt for some sack Attack videos too… There were some good teams using flip out tray intake for that season, eg. 12A, 8059 series, etc

12A’s may not work well with the limited number of pneumatics rules in effect this season. But it was still a heck of a robot.

You are right… forgot that season was mainly pneumatic flippers.

You could try using a spring loaded lock.

The general idea is that there is some component (let’s call it a lock) that is attached to your tray that holds it closed by hooking into your robot base or arm in some way. When you make a motion, such as raising the arm of the bot, that lock loses contact with the base or arm and the tray falls open.

The next step is to build another locking element that keeps the tray open while you are playing, but can be manually released once the game is over.

yep

Here’s a very simple lock that we used on our first Starstruck robot. Basically rubber bands hold down a lever type thing that snaps into place behind an angle piece. The problem with it is that the lock is really heavy, so it is being redesigned right now. I hope that it helps anyways, though.

We used a couple of the thin bar pieces to create an angle that is greater than 180 degrees and it hasn’t broken down yet.
