Flywheel double shot

How are teams like 240p and skyline double shooting without driving forward for the second shot? just wanted to get some discussion going on different methods of double shooting.

Drop off in speed of the flywheel. The first ball gets launched at the speed for the top flag, and because of the drop off in speed, the second ball hits lower, at the middle flag. I believe some PID can go into that to make it more consistent, but I’m no programmer I build and document. Also, if you wanted too, adding a ratchet system on the indexer to adjust the angle of the hood is also possible, and probably more consistent to be completely honest.

We’ve tried the double shot with our flywheel, and it is super challenging to get it consistent. We are working on it for US Open and Worlds

would there be an advantage to either a ratchet or just coast

Ratchet systems typically are good on the flywheel to conserve the motor. That way whenever the motor slows down its a lot less stress on the motor. We had a pretty friction less and heavy torque flywheel, so we did not have a ratchet system. I could see it helping a bit, but i dont know I havent experimented, and I dont want to give you a definite answer if I havent tested it.

I am from New Zealand and my team practices at scrims with 240p they don’t use code to do there double shot but when the first ball gets launched out of the flywheel the compression of the hood on the ball creates pressure on the flywheel slowing it down just enough so that when the second ball is launched it scores the middle flag. the also have buttons on there hood/intake so the balls can be spaced out evenly
