Flywheel Help

My team just built our first flywheel and we need help. It is a single flywheel with anti slip mat on the hood. We are having a lot of trouble getting our rubber band rollers to get the ball to the flywheel. Our biggest problem is that when we get the ball to the wheel, it shoots it out and straight into the ground instead of shooting it up. Does anyone have any idea what could cause this.

Can you post pictures?
One trick in flywheel building is to make sure that the intake and flywheel do not both contact the projectile at once for any significant amount of time, otherwise there can be issues with inconsistency.

You might try pulling the hood back a tad. Launching angle is determined largely by the angle between the flywheel’s center and the last point of the backstop/pad/hood device.
