What is better for scoring, double shooter catapult or a flywheel. My team is experimenting with both on cad but don’t know what is more efficient and will score more. Thanks in advance!
Flywheel is more teamwork oriented while duel cata is better for skills so it all depends on what you are playing for.

Dual Cata is simpler and more efficient generally.
However, if properly tuned and well made, the best flywheels beat the best dual catas, its just really hard to make “the best” flywheels.

Dual cats are less reliable in what I have seen
I disagree; we have a double cata, and we are ~97% consistient. THe only times we miss is when we are either not aligned or the first ball stops the second ball from clearing the switch by blocking it while inside the goal (whyyyyyyyyy). It just depends on how you build it and the amount of tuing you do.

In my state, most of the double shot catas only work when they have 2 balls. When they have one ball, it just lobs that ball all the way across the field and over the goal wall from starting zone 1

Regardless of your consistency, the double catapult has fallen through the ranks hard through the last couple of months. There is only one double catapult I know of that could still be competitive on a world championship level, and theres isn’t even done.

The way we figured out how to score with one ball is to charge the catapult less. (we use a ratcheting pulley mechanism, so we do not have to charge the catapult fullly to score.) I talked about this a bit more in this topic:

My team built over thanksgiving break a double cata and tested it at school, it is like 99% accurate and is really good at scoring. We tried using one ball and it worked the same, so it will work if you make it work, so maybe those teams didn’t build it right.
Is back roller not becoming meta? The top (skills) 3 teams in the world are confirmed back roller robots and they excel in teamwork and skills because they only have to reload a maximum two times a match and have great passing capabilities. On top of this, you can run a four motor drive with a PTO on the catapult and intake in order to get a 4:1 DT and great speed.

Yup, back roller is the new meta being the new best and most efficient way to score in teamwork and skills. A 4:1 drivetrain I tested in june, not the greatest but you could still test with it. And yes, I can confirm all 3 top teams in skills use it.

I have a button that makes the robot go forward and then shoot so that I can shoot one shot at a time with a dual cata
