We at Will C. Wood High School in Vacaville, are planning on hosting a little ‘robotics social.’
The date has yet to be decided, but it will most likely be on a saturday in a few weeks.
The purpose of this event would be so teams in california can meet, practice with each other, trade ideas, and just have a good time.
We will have our low cost arena set up along with tables and chairs.
As far as food and drink goes, we will probably bring a cooler of drinks. Another option is to bring money and we’ll order pizza.
We ask that you please respond ASAP so we can get our plans set.
Our goal is to have 3+ teams participate. If we get a number less than this, then we will have to try again at a later date.
You can contact me through my cell phone or email.
Cell: (707)-592-6982 (I do have texting also)
Email: [email protected]
(Email will probably take longer for me to respond)
If more than 12 teams attend, could you investigate making this into another competition? It doesn’t have to be fancy or anything, but it would be a great way to qualify more NorCal teams.
Concord High would definitely be willing to go. As victory evaded me once more in the finals at Cal High, I am hungry for a bid at worlds. If need be, we could bring 6 teams. We usually bring mine, Green Machine, and the second best team in the class.
well, ill be sure to get the word out asap if this turns into a competition, but for now its still just a ‘robot social’
Right now, March 28th seems to be a good day to do this. If any teams have any problems with that saturday or any other saturday please let me know so i can better plan the date to benefit everyone
Hey dude, at least well finally get our one on one match that youve been craving. I must say though, Green Machines bot is undergoing some heavy modifications, be ready!!
Unfortunately, March 28th is on Vegas weekend for our FRC team, so the captains and drivers of A, C, and E, would all be gone (including myself) - their teams would probably not show up. We on team 254 would be happy if you just set up a field, no fancy stuff necessary (we can bring and set up the electronics if you want) - you just have to create a tournament on robotevents.com (teams could chip in for the trophies).
Beyond a doubt, we’ll come whether it’s a tournament or not, just preferably not on March 12-15 (FRC@SVR), March 26-29 (FRC@LVR), or April 14-19 (FRC@ATL).
Team 438 is interested. We’d be just as happy with a practice as a competition, but would be willing to do either. March 28 should work for us, but if other dates work better for other people, please fit them in first. We’re only one team, and we aren’t needing to qualify for anything.
At the event, we will definitely have a full field set up. The barriers we have are cardboard and pvc pipe. We don’t have a bonus cube at the moment, but it wouldn’t be hard to make one. We have enough tiles and goals, along with a ramp. If anyone wants, we’ll put the white lines on. The goals are the hard see-through ones (lexan i think).
So, yes we will definitely set up many practice matches.
As far as the date goes, thanks again for letting me know what works/doesn’t work. I’m hoping to have a confirmed date sometime in the next week (this weekend, march 14th, is too soon)
Thank you, John (team 254), for offering the use of your electronics. In the event that this does turn into a competition, we will most likely be needing them.
Alright, the date’s set.
The robot social will officially be held on March 28th, from 10am to 2pm
We will be setting up at 9:30
Please bring what you normally would for a competition, such as batteries and chargers, radio frequency crystals, etc. (Don’t forget the robot)
Drinks will be provided, but you’re on your own for food. If you bring money we can have pizzas delivered.
Unfortunately, we could not get approval on making this into an actual competition.
I would appreciate it if teams would confirm again that they will be going by posting here or emailling me ([email protected])
Do you have more details regarding the location? I’m assuming Will C. Wood HS in Vacaville. What is the street address so we can mapquest? Also, is there a building name, room number we should look for? And perhaps a campus map?
The address of Will. C. Wood High School is 998 Marshall Road, Vacaville, CA.
For geological referance, the school is on top of a hill, across from some appartments. Most likely, the event will be held in the big gym. Upon entering the parking lot, you can see an assfault ‘ramp’ leading into the right side of the school. You can walk down that path and it will lead around to the big gym’s side entrance. From there, it’s not hard to locate it’s main entrance.
If the building of the event changes, I will try to update it’s location on campus.
I would be more than happy to stand out at the front of the school to receive teams and help with any unloading. I could also look into setting up some signs leading to the event building.
