Can you push the balls under the bar because if you cant all pushbots can do is collect the balls. (My team will not build a pushbot if you saw our robot (Arty the dual-bot you would know thats a very complicated robot so we won’t do a pushbot). I know in toss up you cound’t push the big balls under the bar.
I do not think you can, the low bars are too low, probably by a centimeter, so the balls won’t fit through. and you can’t touch the low bars. A fast and light push bot that hoards all the balls, maybe that could work.
The field was set near the entrance at Worlds today and it does not take too much effort to push the balls under. The pipe looks like a 3" pipe and is pretty much centered vertically on the wall (4’ from the corners, diagonally).
It doesn’t seem like a traditional pushbot is really a viable option this year. However, it doesn’t seem like it would be too hard to build something that can score in the low goal. At the same time though, I haven’t seen an actual field yet, so I might be wrong.
Well push bots would be easy to elevate
I was at that field multiple times today but the effort and time a pushbot would spend pushing the ball under (which isn’t as easy as you say) isn’t worth 1 pt for regular balls and 2 for bonus ones.
It is very possible for a pushbot to play this year. the bar is just high enough that you can almost roll it under, but enough that you have to push it under. But scoring-wise, pushbots would be almost out of luck once they fill up the goal, and they would only score maybe 15-30 points by doing so.
i was comparing the field parimeter to the pipe and came up with some dimensions
diameter of pipe: 4"
distance from tile to bottom of pipe: 3.15"
distance from tile to top of pipe: 7.15"
the balls are foam, you should be able to push them under the pipe
and i see no rules against it
If one were to create a thing that pushes the balls under, they should be careful that they dont make the stick or whatever pushes it go past the tape under the tube, otherwise it won’t be legal, as that breaks the plane of the goal, as far as I can tell.
I think traditional push bots will still be relevant this year, if nothing else than for ability to be picked up for an easy 50 points, but an enhanced push bot to at least score in the low goal will be much more valuable. I think the easiest design would to simply have a paddle roller on the front that when spinning forward, would pop the ball up high enough above the low goal bar (almost in a golfing motion). Another valuable option is a bot able to corral field balls (especially bonus) back into the loading zone in autonomous so to be picked up and fired by the main shooting robot at its convenience.
This. If I was a long distance shooter, I would find this robot to be an extremely important ally. Through planning, we could see who will get what balls, and where each person would bring them. This kind of duo could easily go on to dominate.
If I were a pushbot, I would make a 10 motor tank drive base and transmission all 10 motors to elevation lift. 4 piston pneumatic break on four corners to hold key position.
The balls are very easy to push under.
One time, I threw a ball from the other side of the field and got it all the way under.
Even a skyrise robot could push the balls under the goals.
Also, if you hit the balls hard enough, they will roll right under the bar. Inspector Gadget was with me when I tried it at worlds.
