Four bar lift

I just went to a tournament and I saw a lot of people using rubber bands on their four/ six bars. Does anyone know the advantage of those?

The rubber bands pull parts of the arm together that lift when pulled together, so they help lift the arm.

It makes it so you can lift bigger loads with less motors power. In Tipping Point they are particularly useful because the goals are so heavy compared to the robots.

Zip ties, it also depends where you put the stand-off for the bands, if they always have tension they usually don’t come off

Essentially rubber bands are negating the weight of the lift so there is less load on the motors. It’s not exactly the case but you can assume so in my experience. It really depends on the geometry of the rubber bands and the kind of rubber bands you’re using

Thank you all for responding! I will think about adding them to my robot!
