I am the device team captain as well as the team business manager
this is difficult, the challenges presented are so different. I did vex before I ever did FRC, so in my first year the team wanted to use a motor to pull back a large amount of elastics and I said “there’s no way motors can do that, electric motors are super weak” and some of the older members responded “no your thinking of vex motors these are REAL motors” the biggest benefit is a good grasp of the design and prototype process
I personally prefer FRC, the challenge there is so much greater, making a good robot that is FRC sized is extremely difficult, as the challenge is more difficult I feel that I push myself further and learn more, there is also more opportunities for leadership on and FRC team.
6)I would go to FRC Championships, but the chances of that happening are… well , tiny
no way, no, not a chance, never, building and FRC robot out of vex EDR points would be a… disaster, an unmitigated disaster.
I will be a part of FRC Stronghold this season with team 1138 Eagle Engineering.
This will be my 2nd year of FRC
This year my role is Design Manager so I am in charge of all of the CAD files.
I started doing VEX before FRC and it helped me build up the simple engineering fundamentals that I may have gotten if I didn’t do VEX prior to FRC.
I personally don’t have a preference but, if I were to choose one I would say FRC just because of the thought process and the fact that once you start building you cannot redesign the robot due to time.
I would go to FRC Championships just because I haven’t gone before, and I’ve been to VEX Worlds 3 times.
I do believe that you can make an FRC robot with VEX EDR parts, but if you were trying to play the game it would be a disaster.
With the start of the frc season coming up this weekend, who is going to be involved in it this year (2016) stronghold? Yes, just on line.
Have you been in frc? Yes
If so, what role do you play? Project Management, Programming, Logistics,
How has vex helped you in your frc team? We were the feed of great roboteers to them for a number of years.
Which do you personally prefer? VEX, that's why I'm here :-)
If you could only go to world championships for one, which would you go to? VEX
Do you think you could build an frc bot with only vex EDR parts? No, not enough power in the motors.
Now what’s most impressive about the FRC video that Foster linked is that it was created by a team. I would love to see the talented members of our community put together awesome videos showcasing what they love most about the VRC.
