Fusion 360 Files?

So I just downloaded Fusion 360 onto my computer a couple days ago, and I have NO IDEA where to start. I’ve watched youtube videos and asked people and I just need someone to step-by-step tell me how to get the files for VEX onto it and also how to get them started. I’ll figure out the rest but if someone could please dumb this process down for me that would be great.

This video seems like it covers all bases when it comes to modeling a robot. Hope that helps!

That’s actually the one I was just watching. I can’t seem to take in anything he’s saying or understand what he is saying at all. But thank you!

Sorry about that. It seems you’re new to fusion, so maybe watch some tutorials that go over basic tools, functions, jargon, etc.

There are multiple places where you can download the libraries of VEX parts.

Autodesk: https://www.autodesk.com/education/competitions-and-events/vex/recommended-software#Kit-of-parts

VEX website: https://www.vexrobotics.com/vexedr/products/view-all
To get the files from the VEX website, you need to click on the part you want. Then, go down to the description at the bottom of the page. Next to the description, it should say CAD files and you can download it that way.

Here is the link to a library created by the Ohio State University’s VEX U team: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DZnPV3OYOTjDdC0xvMYKuiastx1ODXOA/view?usp=sharing&fbclid=IwAR2QOFRLjf1oexFfUvFewxH8Uxf11pV36nUKbZkHknz8suWgSk1jtz1aQ14

Hope that helps.

Does anyone know how to insert .ipt files into fusion, I downloaded the folder @jstefani provided but can’t open c-channels, which are .ipt. I am able to open stuff like mecanum wheels, which are .stp files. Am I doing something wrong?

You need to right click on the file inside of fusion 360 and click convert to Fusion design. Once it is done converting, you can delete the .ipt file.

Hope that helps.

When I right click on the file inside fusion 360, I don’t see an option to convert it.

I made a YouTube video regarding this topic, which you can find here

That video is great but there is a much easier way to do it.

  1. Go to: https://myhub.autodesk360.com/ and sign in to your Autodesk account
  2. Click on the project where you want to import your VEX parts library.
  3. Click on Upload in the upper right corner.
  4. Click folder.
  5. Select your VEX parts library folder you have saved on your computer.
  6. Wait for the entire library to be uploaded.

You can then go back to Fusion and start creating your robot.
This should save you a lot of time.

Oh I use autodesk inventor…

Oof. Sorry. I don’t know too much about the other ones.
