G1 & G2 Violation?

Is this a violation of G1 and G2:

Adults pressuring HS students not to submit a notebook to give other squads on the team an advantage in winning judged awards.

Pressure defined: adults asking students multiple times after students have clearly stated their desire and intent to submit. Telling competitors, “if you win an award, and the other squads don’t qualify, it is your responsibility”.

I would recommend that concerns regarding Code of Conduct be addressed through the Code of Conduct Reporting tools:

asking here on the forum is not the right venue for addressing such concerns.

This is a hard one. I think it probably depends on who you ask honestly.

Personally, I think it is unethical for a coach/mentor to tell a student not to submit a notebook so that a sister team will qualify for an event. Particularly if the students have said that they want to submit their notebook and the coach is pushing for them not to submit it

Some may argue, (and I don’t agree with this), that the coaches are in charge of major decisions made on behalf of the robotics program. They could argue that while it is a student centered activity, big decisions like that are still up to the coaches/mentors. Which I again don’t agree with.

I would still have the kids submit the notebook. G4 says that the robot must represent the skill level of the team, and I would argue that the notebook is an extension of the robot, and should therefore should also reflect the skill level of the team. I would also say that this breaks G3; use common sense.

Also, the coaches telling the kids that if their sister team doesn’t qualify it’s their fault is out of line.

Hope this helps

Here some general guidelines on reporting concerns:

Conduct Issues at an Event: Please notify the Event Partner if there are concerns with conduct, student centered matters, etc. at an event you are attending. The Event Partner, Head Referee, or Judge Advisor will then inform the REC Foundation via the Code of Conduct Reporting Tool. The tool should only be used by those individuals and only for the specific event where they are at.

Concerns With an Event: If volunteers, parents, or adult has an issue with an event itself, please contact you local REC Foundation Manager within 10 days of the event.

Internal Team Issues: Internal team issues should be handled within the individual team or organization. The Code of Conduct Committee does not handle internal team affairs.
